Santa was a Success!

Santa's visit to TLC was a success! All of the children had a fun-filled day: getting their picture taken with Santa Clause, Christmas parties, Christmas caroling and other Christmas activities. We would like to thank all of the parents with their participation with all of the Christmas festivities. Benton Schools will be out of school for the next two weeks. During Christmas, we have a number of activities planned for the kids. Please remember to pick up your calendar of events. The Learning Center will be CLOSED on Friday, December 24th for Christmas. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season!!

Santa's Coming Town

We had a great time during Go West week. The kids enjoyed a number of fun-filled activities throughout the week: dressed up like cowboys and cowgirls, had stick horse races and enjoyed authentic western food. Christmas is in the air, and we are excited about some of the upcoming activities. Santa Clause will be coming to TLC on the morning of Thursday, December 16th. Please do not forget to bring a wrapped book for your child. Following pictures with Santa Clause, the kids will have their annual Christmas party during their scheduled lunch time. Please don't forget to sign up to bring something for the party. We hope everyone travels safely during this holiday season!

Halloween Carnival

Next week starts a fun-filled Halloween extravaganza. On Monday, the Carebear class will be going to Mary's Pumpkin Patch, while our school age kids will be enjoying some fun Halloween activities. We will be having our annual Halloween Carnival on Wednesday, October 27th. The day will begin with a Halloween parade at 9:00 and the carnival will follow after the parade. Make sure that your child wears their Halloween costume on the day of the carnival, but please send an extra change of clothes. Friday, the Infant Center, Teddy Bear classes (toddlers) and the Pooh Bears (three year olds) will have a Halloween party during your child's lunch time. We hope everyone has a safe and fun-filled weekend!

Fall is in the Air

It may still be warm outside, but fall is here. Hopefully, we will soon be able to enjoy the leaves changing colors and the cool air. Over the next four weeks, the children are going to be talking about different types of storybooks. Some of the storybook friends that they will discuss are: the Three Little Pigs, the Little Red Hen, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Jack and the Bean Stalk, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. On October 5th and 7th, we will have class pictures taken. Infant Center will have their pictures taken on the fifth, while the classes in the main building will have their pictures taken on the seventh. In just a few short weeks, we will be taking the Carebear Class on a field trip to Mary's Pumpkin Patch. Right now they are scheduled to go on Thursday, October 19th at 10:00 a.m. We are all very excited and have a lot of things planned for the next few weeks, so make sure to see what will be coming up next.

Labor Day!!!

Just a reminder to all the parents: The Learning Center will be closed on Monday, September 6, 2010 for Labor Day. The children will finish up this week on their color unit. All the children enjoyed "purple cows" (vanilla ice cream and grape soda) for Cook Day this week. Don't forget to wear brown on Wednesday, black on Thursday, and pink on Friday. Hope everyone has a safe, fun Labor Day weekend!!!

Back to School!

Summer has ended, and school is back in session. We had another great summer at TLC, and can't wait for another fun field school year. The preschool will be doing a month long unit on different types of colors. Each week on Tuesday and Thursday they will wear a colored shirt or outfit on whatever color they are learning about that week. Next week, on Tuesday, they will wear the color blue. On Thursday, the children are going to wear the color green. We hope you have a wonderful weekend, and we hope everyone stays cool in the warm weather!

Fourth of July Fun!

We had a great time during the Fourth of July parade showing off our homeade hats, necklaces and flags. The school-age kids made the preschoolers a banner to carry with them in the parade. Just a reminder, we will be CLOSED on Monday, July 5th. Next week's unit is camping. Make sure to ask your child what they have learned at TLC this week. We hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July weekend!

Fruit Tasting Fun

All of our preschool classes have been talking about different types of fruit. On Thursday, the kids got to taste: lemons, limes, kiwis, grapes, pineapples and strawberries. Next week, they will be talking about different types of vegetables, so ask your child what fruit or vegetable they tasted. We would like to wish all of our dads a Happy Father's Day! Just as a reminder: TLC will be closed on Monday, July 5th in remembrance of Independence Day.

Animals

We want to thank everybody this week who brought their pets to school for pet week. The children had a blast with all of the different animals. We had a variety of animals to come and visit us, some of those included: a rabbit, spider, frog, fish, lizard, hamster, mouse, squirrel and some cute and cudley puppies. Next week the kids will continue their unit on animals, but will discuss different types of farm animals. Just a reminder, the Carebear class will be going on a field trip to the Zoo on Tuesday, May 4th. Have a great weekend and enjoy all of the beautiful weather.

The Bug Man

This week the kids started a three week unit on community helpers. Over the next three weeks, different people throughout the community will come and visit the kids. The various professionals will talk to them about what they do for the community. This week the Bug Man, Fire Department and our very own TLC cook talked to the kids. We are excited to have all these visitors, and hope the children discover ways to help their community in the future.

We are all very excited about some upcoming events at TLC. Friday, February 5th will be Pajama Day to copy the nursery rhyme Wee Willie Winkie. We encourage everyone to dress up in your pajamas, house shoes and robes. Also this week, Saline County Denistry will come talk to the kids on how to take care of their teeth. Next week, we will also have a Valentine's Day Party. We would like to thank Ms. Tomye for all of her hard work at Military TLC. She will be missed, but will serve as a great Director at Alcoa TLC.

We are all excited about some upcoming events. Over the next two weeks the children will be doing some exciting activities associated with Fall and Thanksgiving. The Care Bear class is going to have their annual Thanksgiving Feast this Friday November 20th at 12:00 P.M. Parents are invited and welcome to come. Also on Friday the Teddy Bears and Pooh Bears will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal for lunch that includes turkey and of course all of the trimmings. Have a wonderful weekend!

Ask your child what they are talking about and see where their imagination leads them. The Care Bears are getting ready and preparing for their annual Thanksgiving Feast. Halloween is almost here, and we have a full week of fun activites planned for the kids. Monday, Benton Schools will be out of school, and we will have a day of Halloween activities planned. We will make Halloween cookies, play Halloween games and do some Halloween art activies. On Wednesday, the Carebears will be attending Mary's Pumpkin Patch. Some of the activities for the pumpkin patch iclude: a tractor drawn hayride, free pumpkin for each child, hay tunnel, hay mountain to climb and petting zoo. We will also have our annual Halloween Carnival, Parade and Party on Friday, October 30th. Make sure to wear your Halloween costume on Friday. We look foward to see what everyone is going to dress up as. Have a wonderful weekend.

Wow we can't believe it is already half way through the first nine weeks of school. Everyone I know is starting to get into a routine which makes things easier.
Our preschool group is starting a four week long unit on Storybook Friends. We will read and have fun with some of our favorite stories such as, The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Hen, Little Red Riding Hood, Gingerbread Man, Hansel and Gretel and more.
Carebear parents, mark your calendar. We will be going to the pumpkin patch on Friday, October 16th. We are supposed to be there at 9:00. Watch your child's folder for more information coming soon!!!

Next week we will be celebrating the 233rd birthday of the United States! We will celebrate at TLC with patriotic crafts, activities, and a parade on Thursday. Please dress your little Americans in Red, White, and Blue next Thursday for a little parade through the school at 9:00 Thursday morning.

This past week we had a great time wrapping up our transportation unit with a bike ride in the parking lot. Y'all have some cute little biker dudes and biker babes!

We will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day.

This week our preschool will continue to talk about transportation. We are letting parents know that the kids are welcome to bring their bicycles to school on Wednesday, June 24th. The TLC parking lot will be blocked off around 9:00 a.m. for all of the fun and excitement. The school age kids also have some fun events planned this week-- swimming, snow cones, Larry's Pizza, skating, and Olympic themed games and activities. We are all excited about the upcoming events that are ahead. We hope everybody has a wonderful and safe Father's Day Weekend!

Well it's officially summer break and the kids are so excited. We've gotten to meet some new students and seen some familiar faces. Its fun to have the kids that come back each summer and see how much they've grown.
Our preschool students are going to begin a transportation unit next week. This unit will last three weeks and we will focus on things that fly, things that float and things you ride. We have some fun things planned and the kids are sure to have a great time.

We had a fabulous graduation ceremony today for our Care Bears. It's so exciting that they are on their way to kindergarten! I know that they will do so well! Thank you to everyone who attended and to the teachers for making it so special. These children mean SO much to us all, and we are very blessed to get to watch them grow and learn!

I am so excited to be the new director! You have all been so sweet in welcoming me. I am so blessed to be able to work and play with your children. I also really want to thank my assistant director Samantha and the many other wonderful TLC employees who have helped make this a smooth transition. Ode to Ms. Laura

Staff, children, and parents alike will certainly miss our beloved Ms. Laura. She has been such a great leader for our Learning Center, and we have all been blessed by her kindness. The good news is that she is not completely gone. She will still be visiting- hugging the kids and complimenting their artwork. One of her new tasks at the TLC Corporate office will be to redesign our curriculum, and we are very excited to see what she has in store for us. So, although we will miss her, we will continue to benefit from her! We love you Ms. Laura!

We had a great Go West week!! We snacked on smores and beef jerky, raced stick horses, rode on a 'bull', ate hot dogs, tater chips and sasparilla, hunted for gold and then slept under the stars!! What a wonderful day!

The Carebear classrooms went to Grace Health Care on Wednesday to sing Halloween songs to their residents. They all did a really great job singing.

After their songs, the Carebears passed out cookies to the residents.

Pumpkin Patch

Wow! What a great fieldtrip to Motley's Pumpkin Patch.

We started off with the pig races!!

And then went went to see the animals! We got to feed the goats, sheeps and chickens.

Then we got to run, jump and crawl through all of this hay!

After that we each got to pick our very own pumpkin from the pumpkin patch!

Then we went on a hay ride through the Christmas trees.
The last thing that we did was have a picnic. What a great time!

Celebrating Brown week is a great excuse to eat Chocolate Ice Cream!!

The school age students have been hard at work rehearsing plays. They preformed Wednesday for the preschool children, a few parents and grandparents. Room 1 preformed "The Three Pigs". The school year is right around the corner!

We are now taking applications for school age students for Fall 2008. The fall registration is $18 for students that are currently attending. This fee will take the place of your October supply fee. Please pick up a form at the front desk. All forms for currently enrolled students are due by Friday, July 18.

Open registration for new students will begin Monday, July 21. If you are interested in attending, please give us a call at 501-315-2221.

We are so proud of our Pre-School Graduates!! Ms. Maribeth has twelve students and Ms. Crystal has ten students that are graduating from their classes into Kindergarten in the fall. All of our graduates did a wonderful job singing at the ceremony. Thank you to our moms & dads, siblings, grandparents, and aunts & uncles that were able to attend and make our ceremony so special.

The children will be talking about where they live, what color their hair and eyes are, their friends, address, phone numbers, and all the things that make them individuals. Your child's teacher may be asking for some information from you, or for you to bring in baby or family pictures. I think you will enjoy seeing some of the things that they will be learning and creating during this unit.

We had a wonderful Carebear Mother's Day Tea yesterday. We really appreciate our mom's for taking off of work to join us. As always our Carebears did a wonderful job singing in their sweetest voices the Mother's Day songs. We all loved the wonderful treats that the Carebears prepared for us to eat. Our Carebear's all looked extremely handsome and beautiful!!
